Travel ‘n’ tunes : 10 songs for all types of travellers

Music is an important part of our life. There are songs written for every occasion, even for travelling. So let’s take a look on a list of some hits that should be on your mp3 player while being on the road, or they can encourage you to book a ticket for your next trip.

The Proclaimers – 500 miles

If road trips had a theme song, then this one should be the main contender. Imagine riding a car or a mini-van across the country with your friends, passing through cities, forests, valleys and singing “but I would walk five hundred miles and I would walk five hundred more just to be the man who walked a thousand miles”.

Bruce Springsteen – Born to run

One of the biggest hits of “The Boss” is a song perfectly written for all the travellers. Nobody is intended to stay in the same place continuously. World is made to explore it so “we gotta get out while we're young ‘cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run”.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Around the world

It doesn’t matter where you were born. There is a whole world out there, with places that are made to discover them. Wherever you go, from America to Asia, you will find out every single city or village is so amazing. And “I know, I know for sure that life is beautiful around the world”.

Mumford & Sons – Hopeless Wanderer

How many times did you experience something bad and wanted to hit the road? Travelling shouldn’t always have a fixed schedule. Sometimes you just have to wander around, without any particular plans. But then “hold me fast,’cause I am a hopeless wanderer”.

Steppenwolf – Born to be wild

When listening to this hit, probably most of us are thinking of the same thing : wearing a leather jacket & your jeans and riding a motorbike. Exactly what's the theme of the music video of this song. I am sure that whether or not you like this kind of music you have at least once danced to this song “looking for adventure in whatever comes our way”.

Coldplay – Viva la Vida

Well, this might not be a song which talks a lot about travelling. But if you listen to the lyrics, you will find out what Chris Martin and his band are telling you : be free & enjoy your life. Something that you can achieve of course by travelling because “For some reason I can’t explain once you’d gone there was never never an honest word and that was when I ruled the world”.

The Doors – Roadhouse Blues

Let it roll, baby roll. Another one perfect song for road trips, this time by The Doors. I am sure that hundreds of people from all over the world have sung “Keep your eyes on the road your hands upon the wheel down in the roadhouse we're gonna have a real, a good time” while hitting the highway.

Parov Stelar – The sun

This Austrian electro swing producer has some very upbeat songs. But there is one that it’s different from them. One that makes you want to take the next plane or train and say one thing : “now I’m gonna tell my momma that I’m a traveller, I’m gonna follow the sun”.

Lucky Starr/Hank Snow/Johnny Cash and many others – I’ve been everywhere

Four words that travellers would like to say. Undoubtedly, all of us keep a list with the countries and cities we have visited. So, someone decided to write a song about this wish, whether in its original Australian version or in the American version. I would like once to say that “listen,I’ve traveled every road in this here land.”

Talking Heads – Road to nowhere

Should we take this road? Of course yes! It is true that you will discover the best things while travelling, only if you don’t follow a fixed route. “We're on a ride to nowhere , come on inside” and you will have fun. I am sure that you will like it a lot.
